Sadamasa Motonaga

Sadamasa Motonaga (Japan, 1922 - 2011)
Born in Mie Prefecture in 1922, he joined the Gutai group in 1955. Motonaga is known for his technique of dripping, splashing and pouring paint, with a feeling similar to the Art Informel movement in France. His images are the result of both accidental effects and finely calculated maneuvers. In later years he brought out his humorous, lighter side and began painting a series of warmly abstracted images. Sadamasa Motonaga was not only a painter, but he also created prints and picture books, working in a wide field of artistic activities.
